Motmot Treks is a travel agency based in Guatemala. This page explains what happens to the information you give us on motmotgt.com: what we collect, why, and how to have it removed. The short version is that we use what you send us to answer you and to organise your trip, and for nothing else. We do not sell it and we never use it for advertising. This site does count its visits, with the tool named further down.

Who is responsible
Motmot Treks, Guatemala, is responsible for the information collected on this site. For any question about this page, or to exercise the rights described below, write to contactmotmotgt.com or send a message on WhatsApp at +502 5693 3262.
What we collect
Only what you type yourself. There are four forms on this site, and a fifth that only our travellers see.
When you send us a message — from the contact window, or at the end of the trip estimator — we receive your name, your email address, your message, and, if you came from the estimator, the summary of the trip you had just put together: regions, dates, number of travellers, estimated total.
When you send a booking request we receive your name, your email address, your phone number if you choose to give one, the dates, the number of adults and children, the time slot for a birdwatching outing, the estimated total, and any note you add.
When you reserve a spot on a group outing we receive your name, your email address, your phone number, which we use to reach you on WhatsApp, and the number of people coming.
When you ask to hear about new group outings we receive your email address, and nothing else. We also note the language you were reading the site in, so that we write to you in it.
When you confirm a trip with us, through the private link we send you once the trip is agreed, we receive the first and last names of everyone travelling, children included, your email address and phone number, where to pick you up, how you would like to pay the deposit and, if you tell us, how you heard about us. We also ask about allergies and dietary needs, about anything to do with health or mobility that the guide should know, and for an emergency contact if you choose to give one. We ask these last questions for one reason only: the safety of everyone on the trip and its smooth running, so that the guide knows what to watch for, and the kitchen what not to serve.
We ask for nothing else. There is no account to create, no newsletter apart from the note about new group outings if you ask for it, and no payment on this site: a group outing is paid by bank transfer, from your own bank. We never ask for a passport or card number here; if a trip needs those, we ask you directly, later, once we are already in touch. We do not buy lists, and we collect nothing about you from anywhere else.
Where it goes
Your message arrives as an email in our mailbox at contactmotmotgt.com, which is hosted, like the site itself, by Hostinger.
A booking request does two further things. It is saved in this site’s database, so that we have the request in writing. And it creates an entry in the team’s Google Calendar to hold your dates — that entry carries your name, your email address, your phone number if you gave one, the size of the group and your notes, so that the guide who takes your outing knows who they are meeting. Google is therefore a recipient of that information, under its own terms; since its servers are in the United States, your details are transferred outside the European Union. You also receive a confirmation email from us.
A group outing reservation is saved in this site’s database and reaches us by email; it creates no calendar entry. You receive a confirmation email with the details for the bank transfer.
A trip confirmation is saved in this site’s database, on a page that only your private link opens and that search engines never see. It reaches us by email, and you receive a summary of it by email too. What you tell us about health and diet goes no further than the people who run your trip: the guide and, for an allergy, whoever prepares your meals.
If you ask to hear about new group outings, your address stays in this site’s database and nowhere else. We write to that list by hand, from our own mailbox, only when a new outing has a date; no mailing service ever receives it. To leave the list, reply to any of those emails or write to contactmotmotgt.com, and we remove your address.
Beyond that, we pass on only what is needed to run the trip you booked, and only to the people who run it: the guide, the driver, a hotel holding a room in your name. We never sell your information and we never hand it over for advertising.
Cookies and measurement
This site places one cookie on your device of its own accord: it records the language you chose to read the site in, so that you are not sent back to English on your next visit. It is what makes the language switch work, it stays on your device, and it is shared with nobody. The first time you come here, a short message says that the site uses cookies; once you have read it, it does not come back.
Since September 2026 we also count visits, with Google Analytics. It loads on every page. It places its own cookies to tell one visit from another, and reports to us which pages are read, from which country, on what kind of device, in which of the three languages, and by how many people. It also records a handful of moments that matter to us: an estimate obtained, a booking request sent, a message written, a switch to WhatsApp. We read all that to know what interests the people who come here, and for nothing else. We cannot put a name on any of it, and we never join it to what you send us through a form. Google’s servers being in the United States, that measurement is transferred outside the European Union, under Google’s own terms.
The notebook on the home page remembers two things in your browser’s own memory: that you have already opened the cover, and that you have already seen the hint about swiping. Both are erased when you close the tab. Your browser also keeps a note that the message about cookies has been read, so that it is shown once and not again. None of this ever leaves your browser.
If you would rather not be counted, three routes work and we will not hold it against you: Google publishes a browser add-on that switches Google Analytics off on every site at once; most content blockers do the same; and a private window keeps nothing once you close it.
Fonts, images and maps are served from our own server: apart from the measurement described above, opening a page here contacts nobody else. The reviews shown on the home page were copied by hand from our Google listing: reading them sends nothing to Google.
How long we keep it
- Emails: as long as the exchange is useful, and at most three years after our last contact.
- Booking requests, in the database and in the calendar: three years after the trip, or after the request if it did not become a trip.
- Group outing reservations: three years after the outing.
- Trip confirmations: three years after the trip. The answers about health, diet and the emergency contact are erased from the site thirty days after the trip: they only ever served the trip itself.
- Addresses on the list for new group outings: until you ask to leave it, and at most three years after our last email to you.
- Longer only where accounting rules require it.
After that, we delete them.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it, or to erase it. Write to contactmotmotgt.com: we answer within thirty days, and we apply this wherever you live. If you are in the European Union, these are your rights under the GDPR, and you may also complain to the data protection authority of your country.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS: what you type in a form is encrypted on its way to us. Access to the site’s administration and to the mailbox is limited to the people who run the agency. No system is beyond reach, which is one more reason we ask you for so little.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and we knowingly collect nothing from them. When a booking includes children, it is the adult making the booking who tells us how many are travelling and how old they are and, once the trip is confirmed, their names and anything about their health the guide should know.
Links to other sites
Our Instagram and Facebook links, and the link to our Google reviews, take you to sites we do not control. Once you are there, their own policies apply, not this one.
Changes to this page
If we change how any of this works, we change this page and the date at the top of it. Should the change matter to a trip already being prepared, we tell you by email rather than leaving you to find it here.
