Frequently asked questions
What time does the tour start?
The tour begins at 7:00 AM for the morning slot, or 2:00 PM for the afternoon slot. Early morning is when birds are most active and easiest to spot, so the morning tour is a great option if you can make it.
Do I need to bring my own binoculars?
No. We provide quality binoculars for every participant, as well as a spotting scope shared within the group. You’re welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer using equipment you know.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable closed walking shoes, layered clothing for cool morning air, a hat, sunscreen, and water. The terrain is easy, but trails can be slightly damp early in the day. A camera is optional but recommended.
Is transport to the site included?
Transport is optional, not included by default — you can add it when booking. If you select it, we pick you up from your hotel 30 minutes before the tour starts and drop you back at the same place afterward. The price shown assumes a hotel in Antigua or its immediate surroundings — if yours is elsewhere, we will message you before the tour to confirm the correct transport price.
Why is Finca el Pilar known for hummingbirds?
Close to the trail there are hummingbird feeders that draw in a wide range of species at once, from the Violet Sabrewing to the White-eared Hummingbird — so you don't have to wait or search far to see several species well, often just a few feet away.
