Frequently asked questions
Where is Finca San Rafael de las Hortensias?
In the Cordillera Alux, on the old road between Mixco and San Lucas Sacatepéquez, between Antigua and Guatemala City. Access to the trails costs Q10 per person, included in the price.
How do we get there?
The finca can only be reached by private car. Add our round-trip transport when you book and we pick you up at your hotel in Antigua or Guatemala City, or meet us at the finca if you are driving.
What time does the tour start?
The tour begins at 7:00 AM for the morning slot, or 2:00 PM for the afternoon slot. Birds are most active early in the day, so the morning tour is the better choice if you can make it.
Do I need to bring my own binoculars?
No. We provide quality binoculars for every participant, as well as a spotting scope shared within the group. You’re welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer using equipment you know.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable closed walking shoes, layered clothing for cool mountain air, a hat, sunscreen and water. The forest trails can be damp early in the day.
